Rickey David Kunz, of beloved memory,
Son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away March 25, 2020. Born to Richard L. Kunz & Gloria D. Murphy Kunz in 1957, Rick was the fourth of five children and the first son. His childhood was spent in several places, including Idaho and Alaska. An adventurous young man, Rick joined the Air Force, and later travelled extensively throughout his life, eventually finding a home in Texas. He was a talented musician, and artist, incredible with memorizing recitations, and quick with mental math calculations. His life was not without hardships, which he battled through to the end.

He is much loved and missed by his family and friends, especially his sisters, Valorie Smith, Lori Hansen, and Pamela Burns, as well as his best friend Les Graves. His numerous nieces and nephews will miss him dearly.

Rick was preceded in his passing by his beloved mother and father, and his younger brother, Loren Twayne Kunz. His surviving family knows there is a joyous reunion in heaven, even as we mourn his death.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. We thank the loving staff at Navarro Regional Hospital, especially his nurse, Ms. Bree, and Ms. Beth at Corley Funeral Home for their amazing care of our beloved Rick.

We invite all who knew and loved Rick to contribute to this online memorial as his sisters have shared their thoughts below:

Valorie: “One of the comforting things I recall from my visit with Rick a few years was on a Sunday drive around Texas he had his Christian rock CD blasting, and a ballad came on that really touched my heart. The lyrics were so poignant—a plea for the Lord to cleanse our sins. I was brought to tears. Then my brother did the same. And here we were, driving down the road like two crazy people: tears running down our cheeks and smiles on our faces. It was our best bonding moment. If I could talk to him again, I’d say, ‘You did it! You made it through this life and through all your wrenching life experiences without giving up!’ I’d tell him, ‘I love you and I always will, and please hug Mom, Dad, Twayne, and all the loved ones there. Until we meet again. Good night, Little Bro.’ Your big sis, Valorie xxxoooxxxoooxxoo”

Pam: “I remember a time when Rick came to live with me and my family. My kids all adored him and his funny personality. He would love to carve beautiful things and he had a great talent for it. He was very artistic in many ways. We all loved him and we are all going to miss him very much. Love you little brother!”

Lori: “I’ll never forget how confident he was in himself. He would always tell me he could carve but I had no idea how very talented he was until the day he was given antlers to carve on from Van and Van’s dad. He went straight to town and bought a dremel. He had the most beautiful eagle carved out and almost completely finished by the day’s end. I would not have known where to start. It was also very fun to have him pick up the guitar and we’d sing together... good memories from our childhood days. He was fond of the scriptures and brought them up regularly. He had one whole chapter memorized from the Bible. All his nieces and nephews so enjoyed being around him and getting to know him. He had a very good heart. I will miss you Rick. I love you little brother.”
