Obituary

Charles Paul Green, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 22, 2020. He was born in Emmett, TX on December 16, 1937. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ila Herd Brussell and Charlie Paul Green.
He graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, TX in 1955. He joined the United States Navy at age 17 and served on the USS Kearsarge Aircraft Carrier. He went on to become the second youngest Petty Officer in the US Navy. After leaving the Navy, he worked in the business field until he decided to further his education at East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. He was a member of the Acacia fraternity. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lynda, and they were married on the ETSU campus. After graduating, they moved to Celina, TX to teach school. Not only did Paul teach reading and history, but he also drove the school bus and coached girls’ basketball - a sport he had never played. After losing the first game, and being ostracized by the parents, he read The Queen’s Fly High, and was undefeated for the next three years. McAfee Daniel encouraged him to move to Corsicana to teach at Navarro College. He worked there until he retired in1999. He taught reading, history, psychology, was the Dean of Men, and was the Assistant to the President. He was very popular with his students. They would even drive to the satellite campuses just to take his classes. He taught history as though he had lived it! He loved to talk history for hours and hours to whomever would listen!
Paul loved playing golf with his buddies at the Corsicana Country Club where he was on the Board of Directors. He and his son, Chris, even won the Tiger Tale tournament! He was a great father and loved coaching his sons’ baseball teams. He loved traveling with Lynda and being with family. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Barry Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed being a docent at the Pearce Museum at Navarro College.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda; his children, Chris [Kukai], Cregg [Aniko], and Stephanie [Todd]; grandchildren, Chase [Ashley], Chay, Kathryn, and Philip; great grandchildren, Cayden and Scarlett; cousins, Ronald Hammock, George Ann Lambert, Eddie Sue Pryor, and Robert Hamrick.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Monday, February 24 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Todd Harris and Dr. Steven Bell officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist at 320 N. 15th Street, Corsicana, TX 75110 or Navarro College Student Scholarship Foundation at The Navarro College Foundation, 3200 W. 7th Avenue, Corsicana, Texas 75110.

I met Paul thru McAfee Daniel back when I started researching out family history. He told me we were related to just about everyone from the west side of the county and I found he was right ! We figured out we were Second Cousins (once removed) both descended from Henry Thomas Williams & Martha Jane (Thomas) Lindsey-Williams of Emmett, TX. Years later I got to meet Todd and Stephanie when Todd was preaching a sermon at Christ United Methodist Church (as our assistant pastor) and mentioned he had preached in Corsicana. It only took a minute for us to make the connection ! I am so sorry for you loss, I just lost my father, Charles David Williams, a couple weeks ago. He was about the same age as Charles Paul Green. We have a lot of "Charles" across the family, I believe most named for Charles Reno McAfee. Anyway, my prayers are with you and I just wanted to share how generous Charlie Paul Green was to me and I will forever be in his debt. God bless. ...ed williams

I remember Paul from working with him at Navarro College in Mexia. He was a wonderful man to know. He would tell stories for hours on end that everyone loved to hear, from his co-workers to his students! I would look forward to the days when he would be working. He never knew a stranger. He would welcome them and talk to them until they would become his friend, too. He would always lend a helping hand to those that needed it. Thank you, Paul! You will be missed terribly! I love you!
